Guidelines

The Robert Hungerford Chapel Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees whose purpose is providing educational support to minority students. Since August of 1991, The Robert Hungerford Chapel Trust has awarded more than 300 scholarships to minority students. The Trust provides financial assistance in the form of scholarships to high school and college students based on a minimum GPA of 2.5, and a record of extracurricular and community service in the community and demonstrated financial need. The scholarship is renewable for up to four (4) years. The amount awarded for renewals depends on the applicant’s GPA and the availability of funds. These funds are to be used solely for tuition, books, room & board at a two (2) year or four (4) year college or university.

Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must be a graduating senior of accredited high schools in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties.

  • Graduating Senior Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a four-point scale, plans to attend a 2 or 4-year college or university, a record of extracurricular and community service in the community and provide a written explanation as to why financial assistance is essential.
  • College Applicant must be a student who is enrolled in a 2 or 4-year college or university, with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a record of extracurricular and community service in the community and provide a written explanation as to why financial assistance is essential. (Funding for college applicant(s) is limited and based upon available funding for that academic school year).

Application Procedure:
Application forms and instructions may be obtained by contacting the Trust via email. Completed applications must be returned to our (P.O. Box 962, Winter Park, Fl 32790-0962), postmarked no later than May 15th.

  • The scholarship application must be completely filled out, with all attachments, in its entirety.
  • Each applicant must submit a 150-word essay containing: a brief biographical sketch, record of extracurricular and community service in the community, educational aspirations, career goals and a written explanation as to why financial assistance is essential.
  • To validate the financial status of the applicant, a copy of parent (s)’ IRS Form 1040 (through adjusted gross income line) must be included in the application packet. If not required to file Form 1040, provide official alternate source document to verify income, such as statement from Public Social Services, Pensions or SSI.
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation.
  • Official unopened transcript from the student’s school or college that reflects the student’s current GPA.

Notification Procedure:
Awardees will receive notice of award via e-mail. If you are awarded a scholarship, you will be expected to attend an award’s program via Zoom.

Award Payment Certification:
Scholarship awardees may enroll in the institution of their choice. It will be the student’s responsibility to submit to the RHCT verification of enrollment from the college or university’s registrar office official notification of enrollment, with the student’s ID number and college information. When the required verifications of enrollment have been received, individual award payments (made payable to both student and institution) will be mailed to the college or university.

Award Payment Limitation:
All scholarship awards must be used within one (1) year from date of selection notification.
